Introduction
The Rebound
He was a severe alcoholic.
Vodka was his choice …and a lot of it.
He never went anywhere without his insulated mug …full!
I remember him telling me his turning point:
I would hide my empty bottles in the woods so no one knew how much I was really drinking. One day, I came in the house and all of my bottles were piled up on the kitchen table.
My only son left a note on the table with my empty and broken pile of shame.
It read:
DAD,
I LOVE YOU AND
I WANT TO HELP YOU.
Thank you so much for subscribing. I want this to be interactive so please post in the comments below.

Watch…
As the story of this Everyday Legend unfolds and the painting progress. The above is the reference image that I have put together with layers in Photoshop. I did the shoot in October ‘23. It has taken me this long to work thru the imagery that would work and had meaning AND could be an affordable size.
Let me emphasize, it takes a lot of canvas to get entire hand and arm of a man who is 7’ tall and keep it my signature “larger than life” 200% of life size.
I really would love your feedback. There is a comments section and I would love to hear from you.
He was a legend when I was a kid. I’ve known WHO this professional athlete was since 1986, but we didn’t meet till 2023. He was a legend in the gym I practiced in every single day, even coached by the same coach, Dave Strong.
About The Painting
I plan this painting to be approximately 20” x 28” x 4” deep.
Three layers of paintings in one.
I am planning 3 layers. I’ve never done 3 layers before so this will be the first for me.
Layer 1: The furthest back one will be the Duke basketball court. The place where his career started to thrive. This court represents some of the happiest days of his life. His jersey is retired in this gym. This layer will be representational only and out of focus.
Layer 2: The cutout hand. Let me tell you, professional athletes have LARGE hands! To get this to be my standard “larger than life” size hand, this painting has to be very large. The tattoo on his arm is very important as is the large scar in the palm of his hand that will absolutely be included.
Layer 3: A glowing book of faith. The Bible. This is the item that he will be rebounding. In the beginning of his recovery, that Good Book wasn’t all the way in his grasp.
Collect early - Gigantic rewards.
By being a paid subscriber here, you have the opportunity to collect this work before it’s complete at a price with a HUGE reward. I will progressively increase the price of this work as I tell the story and complete more of the painting. IF you collect early, the painting will still be completed and the story will still be told, but you get to call it “Yours”. You will be the ONLY person to call it “Yours”.
